Understanding recurring donation plans and charges

In this article, we’ll explain how recurring plans relate to individual payments and where to review their details.

A recurring donation includes a plan and a series of payments. The plan sets how much and how often the supporter gives; each charge is an individual payment.

Viewing a recurring donation

Open Recurring and find the supporter’s plan. You can view its amount, frequency, status, and payment history.

Individual charges also appear in Transactions. Use the Parent recurring link on a charge to return to its plan.

The plan’s charge counts show how many payments are planned and how many have succeeded. An infinity symbol means there is no fixed charge limit. A charge’s number identifies its place in the payment sequence.

Starting or managing a recurring donation

To set one up for a supporter, follow Processing a credit card donation from the dashboard and choose a recurring frequency.

Supporters can update or cancel their plan through the supporter portal when you enable those permissions in Settings → Portal.

When a payment needs attention

Open the individual charge to see its status and failure reason. See Troubleshooting failed or missing donations for help.
