Using Items in donation presets

In this article, we’ll explain how to create, manage, and use Items in your campaigns.

Items let you create product-style donation options that donors can select during checkout. Unlike standard amount presets, Items can include images, quantity selection, inventory limits, and more.

This is useful when you want donors to give toward specific sponsorships, packages, products, seats, dedications, or any preset option that should feel more detailed than a simple donation amount.

Amounts vs. Items

Double supports two types of donation presets:

Amounts

Amounts are the standard donation preset options.

Each amount includes:

  • A donation amount

  • An optional short description

Amounts are configured directly on each campaign.

Items

Items are more advanced donation presets.

Each item can include:

  • A name

  • A description

  • An image

  • A price

  • Quantity selection

  • Inventory settings

  • A maximum quantity per donation

Items are created in your account-level Items catalog. Then, on each campaign, you choose which items from the catalog should appear in that campaign.

Important difference

Amounts are created at the campaign level.

Items are created at the account level, inside your global Items catalog. Campaigns only control which catalog items are shown.

This makes it easy to reuse the same item across multiple campaigns without recreating it each time.


Creating a new item

To create a new item:

  1. Go to the Items tab in your Double dashboard.

  2. Click New.

  3. Configure the item settings.

  4. Save the item.

Item info

The Item Info section includes the basic details donors will see.

Item name

The name of the item.

This will be shown to donors in the checkout.

Description

A short description of the item.

The description can be up to 100 characters.

Image

You can upload an image for the item.

Recommended image ratio: 1:1 square.


Price settings

The Price section controls how much the item costs.

Currency

Choose the base currency for the item price.

Price

Enter the item price.

Auto convert when using another currency

By default, Double can automatically convert the item price when a donor selects a different currency.

For example, if the item is priced in USD and the donor chooses ILS, Double will show the converted amount based on the exchange rate for that day.

Double currently supports the following currencies:

  • USD

  • EUR

  • GBP

  • CAD

  • AUD

  • ILS

If you turn off Auto convert when using another currency, you will be able to manually set the item price for each supported currency.

This gives you full control over the exact amount donors see in each currency.


Frequency

The Frequency setting controls whether the item is a one-time or recurring donation.

Currently, Items support One Time donations only.

Recurring item frequencies will be supported in the future.


Quantity settings

The Quantity section controls whether donors can select more than one of the same item.

Allow quantity selection

Turn this on if donors should be able to choose more than one of this item in a single donation.

For example, a donor could select 3 seats, 5 sponsorships, or 10 packages.

Available inventory

Use this field to limit how many of this item are available.

For example, if only 50 sponsorships are available, enter 50.

If the item should be unlimited, leave this field empty.

Max per donation

This controls the maximum quantity a donor can select in one donation.

For example, if you set this to 5, a donor will not be able to select more than 5 of this item in a single checkout.


Danger zone

The Danger Zone includes settings that affect whether the item can be used or removed.

Active toggle

Use the Active toggle to control whether this item is available in campaign settings.

If the item is active, it can be selected and added to campaigns.

If the item is inactive, it will no longer appear as an available option when adding items to a campaign.

Delete item

Deleting an item permanently removes it from your Items catalog.

This action cannot be undone.

However, deleting an item does not remove past donation data. Any donations that were already made with this item will still keep the item information attached to them.

If recurring item donations are supported in the future, deleting an item will not cancel existing subscriptions created with that item. Those subscriptions will continue running as usual.


Adding items to a campaign

After you create items in your catalog, you can choose which ones should appear on a specific campaign.

To add items to a campaign:

  1. Open the campaign in your dashboard.

  2. Go to the Donation presets section.

  3. Set the preset type to Items.

  4. Search the Items catalog and select the items you want to add.

  5. Drag and drop the items to control the order they appear in.

  6. Click Save.

Once saved, those items will appear in the campaign checkout for donors to select.
