Solicitors help your organization track the source of donations in Double.
A solicitor is simply a way to track where a donation came from. It can be a fundraiser or a technical source, similar to a UTM.
⚠️ Solicitors are used for attribution and internal tracking only. They do not create public fundraiser pages, fundraising goals, or donor-facing progress tracking. If you want to create a public fundraising page with a goal, use our P2P Fundraising feature instead.
How solicitors work
Double supports a solicitor URL parameter that can be added to your donation link. When a donor gives through a link that includes a valid solicitor slug, the donation is automatically assigned to that solicitor.
For example, if you create a solicitor named Jack Smith, you can add the solicitor parameter to your donation URL like this: ?solicitor=jack-smith
If your donation link already includes other URL parameters, use &solicitor= instead of ?solicitor=.
Creating a solicitor
To create a new solicitor:
Open your Double dashboard.
Go to Settings.
Open the Solicitors tab.
Click Add New.
Enter the solicitor’s Name.
Enter or edit the solicitor’s Slug.
Save the solicitor.
The Name is used to identify the solicitor inside your dashboard.
The Slug is the value used in the donation URL after the solicitor parameter.
By default, the slug is based on the solicitor’s name, but you can customize it. For example, the solicitor name can be Jack Smith, while the slug can be jack-smith, jack, or another value your team prefers.
Using a solicitor link
After creating a solicitor, add the solicitor slug to your donation link.
Example: https://your-donation-link.org?solicitor=jack-smith
Any donation made through that link will automatically be assigned to the matching solicitor.
You can also click the copy icon next to a solicitor to copy the solicitor slug to your clipboard.
Viewing solicitor attribution on a donation
When a donation is assigned to a solicitor, you can see it in the donation details under the Source section. This helps your team understand which person or tracking source brought in the donation.
Filtering donations by solicitor
You can filter donation data by solicitor in the Transactions and Recurring tables throughout the Double dashboard. To do this, use the Solicitors filter.
This allows you to view donations connected to a specific solicitor, compare solicitor performance, or export a filtered list of donations.
Manually editing a donation’s solicitor
You can manually update the solicitor assigned to a donation.
To do this:
Open the donation in your Double dashboard.
Go to the Source section.
Click the edit icon next to the solicitor field.
Select the correct solicitor.
Save your changes.
💡 You can also assign a solicitor manually to a donation that was not originally created through a solicitor link.
Deleting or disabling a solicitor
You can delete a solicitor by clicking the delete icon.
If the solicitor has not been used yet, it can be deleted.
If the solicitor already has donations assigned to it, it cannot be fully deleted. Instead, it can be disabled.
Disabling a solicitor prevents it from being used for future donations, while keeping existing donation records connected to that solicitor.
